Jerusalem

Security detail in the old city

The Eastern or "Golden Gate" of Jerusalem. In Ezekiel 10:18-19, the prophet sees the glory of God leave the temple through the East gate of the LORD'S house. The glory then moves to the East of the city to the Mount of Olives. In Ezekiel 44:1-2  he prophesied the gate will be shut that no one may enter.

View of the temple mount from the Mount of Olives. Zechariah prophesizes that all the nations of the world will gather against Jerusalem and capture it, Zechariah 14. When the LORD returns and lands on the Mount of Olives, He will destroy those nations that attacked Jerusalem.

The southern steps leading to the temple. Jesus would have walked on these steps and our group held a bible study there.

Jesus prophesied "That not one stone of the temple would be left upon one another" in Matthew 24. This prophesy was fulfilled in 70 A.D. during the Roman siege of Jerusalem.

A model of Herod's temple in 70 A.D. Our guide Stan said that Jesus respected this temple and called it "My Fathers House."

The wailing wall of Jerusalem. This is the holiest place for Jews until their temple is built.

A tunnel under the temple mount showing the Herodian stones resting on the bedrock of Mount Moriah. This is close to the area where Abraham offered his sacrifice to the Lord, and where Christ was crucified.

Golgotha which means "The place of the skull" in Aramaic. The area where Jesus would have been crucified, not on top of the clift but at the bottom , at street level.

Called the Garden Tomb, dated to the time of Christ. Only the rich could afford tombs, the poor were buried in the ground. When this tomb was found in 1867, it was empty.

Israeli's have created this beautiful Menorah which contains 95 pounds of gold valued at over 2 million dollars. It will be placed in the new temple when it's built.
